BACKGROUND

This GIOVANNINI family history is based on the ancestors and descendants of Annia GIOVANNINI. Only limited historical information has been accumulated to date and therefore, few family facts are known. At present, the family roots have been traced to Pratigilione, Italy. Sometime around the turn of the century Annia and her husband, Giovanni Girotti, sent their daughter, Margherita Girotti, to Pratiglione in order to care for an aging relative. This information was captured in Margherita's 1904 return through Ellis Island.

Annia appears to be the only known member of this GIOVANNINI family to have immigrated to the United States; however, other immediate or close family members may have entered or been in the country during the same time period. According to research, a fairly large contingent of Italian immigrants migrated to Clinton, Indiana. The 1900 through 1930 census', as well as passenger and immigration lists for Clinton, reflect a fair number of GIOVANNINI'S present in and around the Clinton, Indiana, area. During this same period, at least two of Annia's children were born in Clinton. Based upon generally accepted immigration concepts, which provides that family, close friends, and people of the same roots tended to migrate to the same areas; it would appear to be more than mere coincedence that Annia GIOVANNINI was present in Clinton where so many other Giovannini's settled.
